Siam In Trade And War – Royal Maps Of The Nineteenth Century
by Chakrabongse, Narisa; Henry Ginsburg Et Al
About This Book
In 1995/6 seventeen hand-drawn and hand-coloured cotton scroll maps were discovered in the Grand Palace, Bangkok. HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn allowed five of the maps to be shown at the 2006 Bangkok exhibition "Siam in Trade and War". This richly illustrated catalogue of the exhibition shows how the maps provide a wealth of detail about the topography, events, lifestyles and perceptions during the first three reigns of the Chakri Dynasty. Scholarly articles accompanied by colour plates of the 80 artefacts exhibited deal with the era's warfare and weaponry, maritime trade, and Chinese export porcelain.
Partly in Thai. Reading list. Detailed study of all seventeen maps can be found in the book, Royal Siamese Maps: War and Trade in Nineteenth Century Thailand.
