Ever since 8 November 1962, Prince Mohammad Bolkiah (b. 1947) brother of the present Sultan of Brunei, has wondered what really happened at that time. He was a 15-year-old schoolboy in Kuala Lumpur and on his way home for the holidays when news of the "Brunei Revolt" broke. These events are nowadays rarely talked about. This book explores records rare archival photographs, newspapers, and personal memories. The author finds nothing gives an explanation that is cut and dried. In addition, he counters several popular beliefs stereotypes. He highlights some of the major differences between the Brunei of today and that of 45 years ago and stresses the need to acknowledge and respect the past, and also to look to Asean as a way to share in the globalised world of today.
