This softback trilogy is made up of three notable BBC contributions to oral history. The Plain Tales from the Raj of 1974 contains interviews with members of the last generation of British who worked and lived in India before the 1947 Independence. The Tales from the Dark Continent of 1979 is similarly based on interviews with British who had lived in some of the colonial territories in Africa. Tales from the South China Seas of 1983 come from Malaysia. The volume offers many informal insights into the values and human dimensions of a past - and outworn - imperialism.
