About This Book
First presented in Hong Kong in 1957, "The Flower Princess" by Tong Dik Sang (1917-59) is probably now the best known Cantonese opera. The introduction to the English translation discusses the Ming loyalist theme and the opera's place in Chinese theatrical and musical traditions. The dialogue of the tragedy is set out with the stage directions. With Chinese translation, and black-and-white archival photographs.
