This book was published to accompany Ambulations, an exhibition of contemporary works based on the notion of walking, held from 9 December 1999 to 23 January 2000 at the LASALLE-SIA College of Arts in Singapore. Sixteen predominantly Singaporean artists working in different media and styles were invited to participate in this exhibition, which was spurred by the curator's desire to present a wide range of artistic responses to walking. A catalogue of the artists' works follows a substantial essay by the curator on the subject of walking.
