Compilation of a study from an Asian Development Bank grant to better understand the trade policy structure in Asian countries. Strong export growth in this region slowed sharply in 1996, and the onset  of the 1997 financial crisis worsened a bad situation. This volume provides an analysis of the past and present trade regimes in five Asian economies, focusing on the causes of the export  deceleration in 1996, as well as the impact of 1997's crisis on export performance.  It also suggests remedial measures for revitalizing the export sector in these economies.
