Butet Kartredjsasa is well known as an actor, particularly in theatre specialising in monologues. From 2007-2009, he wrote a weekly column in the Suara Merdeka newspaper published in Semarang, Central Java. The columns were not only a kind of social ventilation and an attempt to entertain, but also record various thoughts and social changes at a time of transition for Indonesia.
