This little known report by F. O. Oertel contains 41 photographs which are of significant historical interest. The indigenous architecture of Burma is well documented in these photographs, and Mr. Oertel's great appreciation for the beauty and charm of Burma and her people is clearly evident. His observations and recommendations in his field of specialization are as relevant today, as they were at the time that he reported them: "...The object of conservation should be to preserve and not restore... Much mischief is done by treasure-hunters and railway and road contractors... I have already notices the handiwork of the treasure hunters in rifling pagodas". We leave the pages of this photographic report only regretting that Mr. Oertel's instructions did not call for a full report.
