This publication accompanies an exhibition of mixed media works by Swiss artist Franklin Chow (b. 1946) that premieres at the ION Art gallery in Singapore. Trained at the Acadmie de la Grande Chaumire in Paris and profoundly immersed in his Chinese heritage. Chow has honed an approach that discloses multiple influences - from fine art to graphic communications, literary texts to filmic representations. This publication features essays by French art historian Pierre Daix - the widely reputed biographer of Pablo Picasso; as well as curatorial essays by Low Sze Wee, Deputy Director (Curation and Collections) of the National Art Gallery, Singapore and the exhibition curator Lindy Poh. An exclusive interview with the artist offers insight into the shaping of an artistic voice that speaks of cultural and personal spaces that cannot be polarised as East or West.
