An acerbic and apparently substantialed illustrated account of the looting of the conquered Burmese court in the "Golden City" of Mandalay by the British army in 1885.  Some insight is given onto the forces and personalities involved and into local, Indian and UK attitudes to the conquest.  The author, who has been involved in a private survey of over a thousand UK museums and institutes speculates bitterly about the subsequent fate of the royal treasures.
