This book documents the findings of a six weeks field trip by the author in the Tarim Basin which aimed at documenting local knowledge on different traditional practices of carpet production in the region. The areas covered include: traditional methods of natural dyeing; contemporary practices of carpet manufacture; raw materials, knotting techniques and patterns; and history and social organisation of the craft.
