This is probably the first book in English to examine Japan's war propaganda 1931-1945. Archival material in English, Chinese and Japanese as well as field study in Japan are used in the discussion of the sometimes differing ideas promoted in the style and propaganda of government departments, the police and the military as well as in the entertainment and advertising industries.
