When Britain Ruled The Philippines 1762-1764: The Story of the 18th Century British Invasion of The Philippines During the Seven Years War. The 1762-1764 occupation of Manila by British Forces and the surrender of the Spanish administration (which had been in Manila for 191 years) is not often remembered. This newly researched study traces the place of the British naval campaign in the Philippines in the ongoing Seven Years' War, which was engaging France, Spain, and Britain in Europe. The rationale of the expedition, the course of events, sacking of Manila, measured support of some local and Chinese inhabitants and subsequent discords between the authorities and withdrawal of the British after the 1763 Peace of Paris Treaty are all set out. The post-Manila careers of some of the leading British personalities involved are also noted. Bibliography.
